Girls Have to do Everything
a fanfic by Suzaka
Disclaimer: Blah (why
do all of my disclaimers start like this?) I don't own the characters or the plot, I am writing this to entertain myself and
because I am trying to get a new angle at this. I suppose it doesn't help I am TUIND (Typing Under the Influence of No Doubt)

Kagome was dragging the incapacitated, human Inuyasha through
the quickly deepening snow. He'd managed to secure a Shikon shard but the battle with the demon had ended at sunset. Inuyasha
had regressed just in time for his fatigue to claim him... as well as land face-first in a snowdrift. Kagome shook her head,
"What would you do without me?"
Inuyasha's head lolled a bit limply and Kagome shook her head,
"What? Were you expecting him to answer?" She sighed, she was going to have to find shelter soon. Inuyasha wouldn't last in
this form and she needed Inuyasha to live. If he died, well whom was she going to have to drive crazy? If he died, Kagome
would lose one of life's constants. All right, so there was some twisted version of attachment, she supposed... but it was
very twisted indeed.
"Oh thank Kami," she breathed, finding what appeared to be
a dilapidated cabin. Well... it was better than nothing, right? Kagome grunted a little and dragged Inuyasha into the cabin.
~~~
Kagome shook her head, she was going to have to restock her
backpack soon. A two-week-old pack of Yan Yan (which she would wish upon no one), her school junk, and a big blanket. Kagome
glanced over at Inuyasha, his skin was a mottled yellow and purple. Kagome had a feeling he had a mild case of frostbite,
or at least would have gotten one had he been outside any longer. She spread out the blanket and rolled him into it.
Inuyasha shivered and Kagome reached over. She rubbed his face,
arms, and legs, hoping to warm him up. "Inuyasha, if you die, I'll never forgive you," Kagome warned. She sighed, "What am
I talking about? You can't exactly answer back, which is a first actually. You're not as horrible when you're asleep, you
almost look like a little kid."
Inuyasha stirred and his eyes flickered open, "You talk like
I'm dying."
"You'd better not die. Well... at least you're awake." She
shook her head, "It's the new moon, unfortunately. So you're not going anywhere for a little while."
He smiled weakly, "What would I do without you?"
Kagome shook her head, "Good question." That's just what I
was saying. She smiled, "You feel okay?"
Inuyasha rolled his eyes, "I feel like I've just woken up after
being half-frozen and yourself?" For some reason, when Kagome giggled just a little, Inuyasha felt some kind of warm fuzzy
feeling. Immediately, he willed that fuzzy feeling into the depths of hell.
Kagome smiled softly, "Go to sleep all right?"
~~~
Inuyasha drifted in and out of sleep the whole night, really
hating the new moon. Whenever he was awake, he looked over at Kagome. She shivered under her coat but kept reading those spell
books of hers. What did those books say? If he weren't feeling so cold and sluggish he would have annoyed her into letting
him see.
On second thought, he'd annoy her after all, "What's in that
book?"
Kagome looked over, "This one? It's world history."
"What does it say?" Inuyasha had to hand it to her, Kagome
was always reading. As annoying as she was, Kagome was one of the most intelligent, self-reliant people he knew.
"It covers your era to mine," she made some notes on a piece
of paper and put it away.
"Are you cold?" Inuyasha looked-dare Kagome say it?-concerned.
Kagome shook her head, "Not really, I have my coat. Are you
all right?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," he replied, dozing off again.
Kagome smiled, 'He's so cute when he's sleeping. Probably because
he keeps his mouth closed... what a feat.' The she looked at Inuyasha again, "I know you're not asleep."
"I know you're going to freeze," he replied. "Come over here."
Kagome walked over, "What for?"
Inuyasha moved over, "Lie down, you're going to turn to ice
soon." Kagome's face told him that she thought his mind was in the gutter. "NOT LIKE THAT! JEEZ!"
"I can see you're feeling better," Kagome said flatly.
There was an almost-cute sulk on his face, "Kagome, I am not
that depraved. I need you to find the shards and I can't do that if you're an ice sculpture. Besides... I can't feel my hands."
Inuyasha could be so useless when he was human. Kagome shook
her head, "Thank goodness you've got me around or you'd have died a long time ago." She had learned, at last, the truth--men
were all screwed without a girl to save them, but that was nothing new. Kagome shook her head, sitting down and taking his
hands. Kagome rubbed his hands and, at the same time, examined them. His fingers were strong, but fairly slender and graceful.
There were calluses here and there, but they were also soft and gentle at the same time. She felt Inuyasha sit up behind her.
Involuntarily, Kagome smiled at him. "What're you doing?"
"Sitting up."
"Obviously, but why?"
"Because I can."
Kagome sighed, "You're crazy, your hands okay now?"
Inuyasha nodded, "Now lie down before you freeze."
"Against my better judgment," Kagome replied, "I'll listen
to you." She felt Inuyasha bring the blanket around her shoulders and she slid down to the floor, warming up against Inuyasha.
She stretched out, curling up against Inuyasha for the warmth. Her on and off shivering came to a halt and she fell asleep.
~~~
"KAGOME! KAGOME!" Shippou shouted. "KAGOME!"
The snow had stopped around the middle of the night, leaving
a sparkling dawn like a Christmas card. A sparkling dawn with four feet of snow that was impossible to navigate. Miroku was
sucking a path through the snow, "Shippou perhaps that cabin will help us gather our thoughts and find them." Shippou sighed
heavily, "If we lose Kagome-San, I'll never forgive Inuyasha. Stupid, stupid demon."
~~~
"KAGOME! KAGOME!" Inuyasha heard someone shouting. "KAGOME!"
Inuyasha sat up, "Kagome, wake up."
"What?" she looked around. "Was that Shippou?"
"Yeah, it sounded like that stupid kitsune."
Kagome cracked her neck, "For the record, Dog Boy, this never
happened."
"Obviously."
"Inuyasha?"
"Yes?"
"One more thing."
"What?"
"SIT!"
"KAGOME!"
